6 mm is the men's default; 8 mm is the statement size. Men bought about half of the magnetic pairs we sold last year, and the split between the two sizes says more about the look you want than about ear size.

How each size reads

Size On the ear Who picks it Magnet
6 mm round or square A classic stud; noticeable up close, not from across the room Most men, office wear, first pair Standard
8 mm round or square Clearly visible; reads as a diamond stud Men who want it seen; hip hop and evening looks Standard or strong; thick lobes need the strong one
6.5 mm moissanite (1 ct look) The most fire per millimeter Men who want real sparkle without a piercing Standard

Single or pair

Most men wear one. Our pairs are sold as two studs; keep the second as the spare, which is the most common loss anyway.

Placement for a thicker lobe

Men are the group most likely to have a lobe thick enough to weaken the hold. Put the back magnet on the thickest part of the lobe, not the edge, and if it still slips by afternoon, size the magnet up. Black PVD and gold IP finishes on stainless steel are the two most bought men's finishes; both last six to twelve months of daily wear.
